Set up WeChat Pay

1. 01

   Register your own reachable number

Install the official WeChat app from your device's app store. Choose Sign Up if you do not already have an account, select your number's country/region code and follow the SMS and security prompts. An overseas number is usable; a data-only eSIM is not an SMS number. Keep the number available after you land.

2. 02

Finish the security check offered to your account

The verification flow can differ. Follow the in-app instructions; if friend assistance is requested, only use a trusted eligible contact through the official flow. Do not buy a verified account, send your password to a stranger or keep making new accounts when a check fails. Use in-app Help and keep Alipay, a physical card and cash as backups.

3. 03

Separate messaging login from payment approval

Being able to send a message does not mean payments are ready. Continue to Wallet below. Use your original passport and your own card for the identity/bank prompts, matching the names as the form requests. Follow the live camera instructions rather than photographing a passport displayed on another phone.

If this does not workIf signup or verification will not complete, stop troubleshooting in the checkout queue. You can still use another accepted payment method; changing to an unofficial 'domestic version' is not a verified fix.
